A tragi-comedy, music-theatre production, focusing on the lives of a modern black family running a Caribbean fast-food outlet (or ‘pattie-shop’) in Brixton, South London, in 2012.
It focuses on Adassa (the owner and manager) and her struggles with the financial well-being of the shop in the face of mounting debts, and on her desire to keep her family safe and thriving in the face of: addiction, secrecy, ghosts from the past, illness and gossip.
However, as things come to a head and she realizes that there are some things she cannot control, she has to face up to major heartache, and potentially, even more upheaval…
Having directed a small workshop production in October 2017 at The Other Palace, Onur returned to Pattie Shop Diaries, this time as a 90 minute production. Pattie Shop Diaries was performed on 4th May 2018 at The Other Palace, and then on 5th May 2018 at Hackney Empire 2.
